Chahat has gained weight suddenly since the age of 4 months.
Chahat Kumar – a young Indian girl called by many by the nickname “child sumo” – has many difficulties to live with, unable to walk alone like other children.
In 2017, Chahat Kumar (Punjab, India) gained global media attention as she had an oversized chubby body. When he was only 8 months old, Chahat weighed 17 kg – the equivalent of a 4 to 5 year old.
With a large body full of fat, Chahat is known by many people by the nickname “sumo little”. Gaining attention online, she has also raised concerns among many that her health is affecting her weight beyond safe levels.
Parents are criticized for making their children obese
According to India Times, Chahat was born like the other children, with a normal weight. But when she was 4 months old, the girl’s weight suddenly increased uncontrollably.
“Her weight is increasing day by day,” Suraj Kumar – her father once said. The excess weight gain comes from when Chahat is hungry and wants to eat constantly. Her mother, Reena, said her daughter eats as much as a 10-year-old.
At that time, Chahat’s parents were very worried about their children, not knowing what was the cause of the weight gain.
“She doesn’t eat or drink like a normal child. He continues to eat and not full. If we don’t feed, the baby will cry. Several times she asked to go out, but because it was too heavy, my wife and I only took her to places close to the house, ”Reena said.
Reena once lost her first son, so when her daughter falls into such a situation, the young mother is very afraid and feels helpless.
Chahat’s story and pictures were shared on the forums, many expressed frustration that the little girl had become like this due to the parent’s education. However, Mr. Suraj denied the netizens’ criticism.
“It cannot be our fault. My husband and I cannot control the situation. I am sad whenever someone makes fun of her for her appearance,” the father said.
Chahat’s oversized body makes Chahat unable to walk and play on his own like other children.
Obesity caused Chahat many problems with breathing and sleeping. When the parents took her to the hospital, the doctors were also mistaken for Chahat’s condition. The baby also has unusually hard skin, so it is very difficult to take blood for testing.
“We couldn’t do a blood sample because the fat was too thick,” said Vasudev Sharma, the attending physician. “Although we tried many different methods, we were unable to determine the baby’s condition.”
Experts in India believe that she suffers from a deficiency of leptin, a hormone that regulates body weight. This deficiency leads to limiting the satiety signal, which means that the patient is always hungry and wants to eat constantly. Chahat is considered to be one of 51 children in the world with early obesity due to leptin deficiency.
The family were advised to take their daughter to the Amritsar civilian hospital, but they did not have the funds to manage it.
The parents of the young Indian hope that her daughter is cured, can develop like other normal children.
Because he was too fat, Chahat could not walk and play like normal children. The legs cannot support the weight of the upper body, so most of the time babies sit or crawl on the floor.
Famous on the Internet, Chahat was approached by many donors and offered to help him. However, until now, the baby’s problems cannot be cured.
In a video recorded by Rare Shot News in April this year, Chahat’s weight is still increasing rapidly. “From the time she was about 6 months old until now, I can’t hold her because she is heavy. Every time she comes out my husband will be the one to hold and take care of the baby,” said Chahat’s mother.
Suraj and his wife’s greatest wish was to be cured of their daughter. “Even though it’s difficult, we’ll do our best to get him to recover and play like normal children. We don’t want your child to be in trouble in the future. My husband and I will do our best for the child ”.
